Influence of structure-selective fluorene-based polymer wrapping on optical transitions of single-wall carbon nanotubes.

چکیده
To understand how fluorene-based polymers selectively extract specific semiconducting single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs), we compared the optical transitions of SWCNTs wrapped with poly(9,9-dioctylfluorene-alt-pyridine) (PFOPy), i.e., structure-selective polymers, with those wrapped with poly(9,9-di-n-dodecylfluorene) (PFD), i.e., non-selective polymers, in organic solvents by using photoluminescence (PL) excitation spectroscopy. Two (n,m) species of PFOPy-wrapped SWCNTs with intermediate chiral angles exhibited blue-shifted emissions compared with the PFD-wrapped SWCNTs. The shifts in the peaks of PL signals cannot be explained in terms of the dielectric screening effect, but can plausibly be explained in terms of the strains of specific SWCNTs due to the PFOPy wrapping. Moreover, the emissions of specific SWCNTs wrapped with PFOPy were not blue-shifted as much when the solvent was changed from toluene to p-xylene, and this result could be accounted for by a change in the rigidity of the fluorene backbone. Moreover, using p-xylene instead of toluene lowered the selectivity of the SWCNT extraction, thereby suggesting the importance of having a rigid fluorene backbone for selective extraction of SWCNTs.

The examination of variation of elastic modules in single wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) is the aim of this paper. Full nonlinear spring-like elements are employed to simulate specific atomic structures in the commercial code ABAQUS. Carbon atoms are attached to each node as a mass point using atomic mass of carbon atoms. The influence of dimensions such as variation of length, diameter, aspect...
متن کاملSulfur Dioxide Internal and External Adsorption on the Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes: DFT Study
Density-functional theory is used to investigate sulfur dioxide physisorption inside and outside of single-wall carbon nanotube of (5,0) and (5,5). This study is conducted at B3LYP/6-31G* level of theory. Sulfur dioxide molecule is studied with axis oriented parallel or perpendicular to the nanotube wall. Both internal and external adsorption on nanotubes is increased with the angle of interact...
متن کاملPolymer-Assisted Isolation of Single Wall Carbon Nanotubes in Organic Solvents for Optical-Quality Nanotube-Polymer Composites
Dispersions of isolated single wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) in pure organic solvents can usually be prepared only at low concentrations (∼0.01-0.02 g/L). Here, we use poly(vinylpyrrolidone) as a dispersant for unfunctionalized SWNTs in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone and achieve concentrations of up to ∼0.16 g/L. Such dispersions remain stable by visual inspection for at least 1 year after preparation....

The effective parameters of (5, 0) and (5, 5) single-wall carbon nanotubes during the interaction with carbon dioxide as sensors are determined. The interaction of carbon dioxide molecules with internal and external walls of the nanotubes is studied using Gaussian 03 coding by density functional theory (DFT) at the B3LYP/6-311G level of theory.
